About Karen
Karen Hersey is a Registered Nurse with the Surgical Oncology (Urology) Team at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto. She has over 2 decades of experience in the care of patients with prostate cancer. Until recently, Karen utilized her nursing education and management skills as the Manager of the Prostate & Uro-Oncology Clinical Trial Unit led by Dr. Neil Fleshner. During this period, she was actively involved in the oversight of research team members and their clinical trial patients in addition to grant-writing and participation on multiple clinical research committees. She currently supports the physician assistant and/or nurse-led ADT Injection Clinic for Toronto Urology Associates, acts as a senior consultant for the Uro-oncology Clinical Research team at The Princess Margaret and sits on ad hoc Nurse Consultancy Boards for pharmaceutical companies involved in delivering and developing prostate cancer therapies. Karen has co-authored over 35 peer-reviewed publications and has been an invited presenter numerous times, focusing primarily on quality of life issues experienced by men undergoing prostate cancer therapy. Karen is an avid reader, a music and cat lover and mother of three grown daughters.
